Thanks Paul,

Poorly documented is right! I have found information on creating built-in presets within the AU and have seen some reference somewhere to user presets having negative indices in the preset list so I'm not sure if this is somehow related.

I've also tried to contact MOTU but they don't even acknowledge my emails.

John.

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for the quick reply but I don't understand the echanism -
the host must be somewhat in control of it?

the host is expected to save presets in /LIbrary/Audio/Plugins/manufacturer/plugin-name the format of what is stored there is defined by CoreAudio. so all host put presets there and all hosts find them there.

current settings are internally handled in a similar way in terms of
the host getting the state of the plugin. but the result is stored
within the hosts own data files for the session, in whatever way it
chooses too.

this is my understanding as the implementor of an AU host. i found
this to be incredibly poorly documented, and there is some evidence
that i got bits of it wrong, so take my comments with a large hunk of
salt.
