AudioUnitInitialize kAudioCodecUnknownPropertyError?

Hey folks:

Under what circumstances - and what does it mean - when the AudioUnitInitialize() function returns 'who?'? I'm assuming this is the kAudioCodecUnknownPropertyError and not the kAudioHardwareUnknownPropertyError, but either way I'm not sure what it implies or where I should look to correct it.
