You'd be surprised how many people are still using 10.5.8, so I would recommend you ask your user base before you drop support for 10.5.

It might be viable to drop PPC support now because the PPC machines are slowly dying out, but drop 10.5 entirely I'm not sure... at least dropping PPC support would cut the number of test platforms down to 3.

my 2 cents

Ok,
thanks for the explanation.
I think I will keep this until I'll leave 10.5 support which may be soon because it would be very difficult (time consuming) to support 4 OS.

Yes you're right, I recall that I solved it but don't seem to remember how (and there's nothing in my daily log on this specific issue either, unfortunately).

One thing I recall I did at one point was swap out the AU base classes (AUEffectBase etc) that came with 10.6 for the ones that came with 10.5, because I had issues with the 10.6 sources on the 10.5/PPC platform (even with deployment target and all set correctly).

I did not do a diff to see what actually caused the problems and our tests showed no adverse effects so just I kept using the 10.5 AU base sources (still do). So you'll probably be safe setting your base SDK to 10.5 (which might just do the same thing I did, I don't know).

Maybe that helps... sorry for not being able to provide better instructions.

   Hi all,
sorry for posting again on this thread but I am really annoyed by
   this problem.

       Hi,
I have the exactly same problem with my plug.
I set base SDK to 10.6 and deployment target to 10.5.
       It crashes in AUBase::SaveState.
If I set the base sdk to 10.5 it seems to work but I am not a
       big fan of it.

Tahome, I found a thread where you add this problem (in
       November 2010).
Now it seems you solved it .
Was it only the base sdk and deployment target sttings or was
       there any other trick?

       Thanks in advance

           Don't
           forget to do that.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've managed to wipe a Mac
               Mini and install 10.5
on it. Unfortunately it couldn't run my version of
               XCode 3.2. on it for
'compatibility' reasons, so I had no way of debugging
               it! And there's no way
of getting an old compatible XCode from Apple it seems
                 -  *grrrr*
I copied the 1.2 auvaltool over to the Tiger machine
               but it ran fine on
there, so the problem had something to do with the
               10.5 OS that crashed at
               SaveState in AUBase.

For anybody who's searching for the same problem...

I had to compile with 10.5 SDK for Carbon and a couple
               of other frameworks
(can't remember which as I did a lot of fiddling with
               them) for it to work
to 10.5 as a target. Using 10.6 SDK DOES NOT WORK for
               doing 10.5 builds.
               Well, not for SaveState anyway.

               Dave.

I think your only chance is installing 10.5 on an
               unused partition
(including dev tools) and boot into that. That's how
               we do things
here. I'm not aware that there is a separate download
               for versions of
               auvaltool.

               Thanks,
