Well, the question is why they steal it even from a popup window. If the plugin NSView doesn't get keyboard events, no big deal really, but it shows popup windows for user to enter text values for parameters, preset names etc., and then the only way for user is to use the clipboard, which is pretty riddiculous.
i don't have an answer for that but i do know that apple has a technical note regarding plugins and logic that strongly recommends never using popup windows (along with several other "best practices" regarding AU plugin/host interaction)
Yes, well, it is actually quite painful to make this stable, but otherwise it works pretty well, and for more complicated plugins it is actually really great. Just the keyboard on Mac...
