MIDIPortConnectSource() freezing

I have a basic application to help me understand CoreMidi.  I am receiving midi events and my read proc is working just fine.  But while I am receiving midi notes and I attempt to change the source via MIDIPortConnectSource() it occasionally freezes.  But I am not getting any error codes and when I break at the point it freezes I dont notice anything out of the ordinary.

Any clues as to why this is?
