iOS devices -- what is in the headphone signal path?

  • Subject: iOS devices -- what is in the headphone signal path?

This may not be quite the appropriate forum for this question, since
it is more hardware related, but I hope you all can point me in the
right direction!

I need to know what sort of processing occurs after I hand my data to
RemoteIO for output. Specifically I am interesting in the headphone
output, but I assume Line Out would be more or less the same?

My understanding is that the volume is applied by the system somewhere
after RemoteIO. Does anyone know if this is performed in the HAL, or
if it is done by the DAC?

Does anyone know if there is a Limiter in the signal path? Whether
implemented in software/HAL, or in DSP by the codec or DAC?

Any information would be great, as my application design will vary
based on this.

Thanks in advance!

-Kevin
