Thanks for clarifying the questions. An addition to your questions
would be, if AudioUnitSetProperty can automatically marshall complex
types like Core Foundation plist types, is this true only for
API-defined properties like kAudioUnitProperty_ElementName, or is it
true also for custom-defined properties? That is one practical
question we really need to know. I guess that would be indirectly
answered by answering these questions.
If the Audio Unit API functions like AudioUnitSetProperty gives
API-defined properties special treatment, then it is easy to know what
values are of complex types. Otherwise, I believe it would have to
poke into the data being set.
