with my new Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion I've had from the beginning a very poor audio performance, which makes itself heard in dropouts and crackles.
My system is an Mac pro dual quad core westmere, 1 Tb HD with 12 GB RAM, Motu ultralite (Firewire 400) connected via Firewire 800 and USB 2.0 hard drives different.
The Moru ultralite uses the Core Audio drivers so it does not need any driver installation. So far I've done well with this solution, updates for update.
My problem manifests itself therefore as follows:
for applications that use Core Audio, I'm always having trouble with, drop outs, little glitches and crackles. This occurs, for example in Logic , but also with Ableton Live or Amplitube and Guitar Rig 3 in standalone mode. But also for example when playing a Youtube video from Safari.
These problems occur both at high buffer settings (1024) as well as at extremely short (128 samples) and so on.
Looking at the CPU usage and disk performance, these are at the bottom of each, and really just kinda background noise.
What I've done so far:
-Repaired disk permissions
- turned Energy saving mode off
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth disabled
- disabled Start objects
-All other background apps off
-USB hard drives removed
-Audio Interface exchanged, I hooked up my master drop outs and crackling occurs.
So, I dont'd really know where to look on.
