Hi Paul,
According to the Rosegarden developers, if I have this straight, there is some stuff in RG that requires ALSA even when JACK is running. They implied that a Mac port would need to solve this. I am actually all for just doing JACK support especially if that eliminates the need for platform specific code.

There have been three folks that have stepped up in the last couple of days and done some work on Rosegarden (Music creation app) http://rosegardenmusic.com . They have successfully gotten it to compile but it is a Linux app built with ALSA (Advances Linux Sound Architecture) in mind. There is some work that will need to be done to make it play with coreaudio. Can anyone help with that? Thanks.
AFAIK, RG can use JACK. JACK runs fine on OS X. You'll get more benefits from your efforts by focusing on using a x-platform audio API, and JACK is as good as any for that purpose (if not the best). if i say so myself :)
if you later decide that you really really want a coreaudio-native version, you can work on that after you've already been able to build, run + use RG on OS X.
