Newbie question about editing an existing or previously recorded audio file.

I'm using the AVAudioRecorder class to record audio data to file in an iOS5 project, and I would like to extend the
AVAudioRecorder class's abilities, to continue to record into the same audio file once the stop method has been called, I realise That I'm probably going to have to use some area of the Core Audio Framework to add a category, or method to a subclass of the AVAudioRecorder.

So I would be grateful for some pointers to the way this could be achieved, and what areas of research in the developer documentation I should find some information, or in which area of the Core Audio Framework this could be implemented.

Many Thanks.

Regards Mark
