To elaborate, there is no render callback. *I* am the "host", as I'm calling AudioUnitRender in my own loop for "offline" rendering, so I'm left to pick a number.

then it theoretically doesn't matter very much. in practice, you will find tradeoffs regarding efficiency and no doubt some values that violate various assumptions by various parts of your graph.
