FYI I am pretty sure everyone at Apple is off this week. I talked to some engineers last week there and that is what I was told.

There is a real good book on OSX device drivers that has helped me and there is some source code on the net for it.

They have a pretty good simple input output loop audio driver that is a great place to start.
