well, that depends on the host, and even with a single given host, which version. consider how dramatically Logic (which is the "standard" many of you seem to work around) has changed its handling of this stuff over time. you can always tell your users "channel N thru M is the sidechain" and then probably never change it in response to any particular host's behaviour. but sure, i appreciate that if you want users to benefit from host-based differential handling of side-chains, then multiple busses for this makes sense.

where they do not make sense IMO are in plugins that can do many different output configurations. this scenario is much simpler for everyone if the plugin just reports variable channel I/O configurations and lets the host/user pick the one to use.
