technically of course its not the host itself that has code for this, but the audiounits/coreaudio libs. it is a nice feature.

of course, i'm still trying to figure who owns the little horizontal slider/value windows that appeared in the "default" UI starting with Lion. apple's technotes say "do not create additional windows" and then their builtin default UIs do precisely that ... sigh.
