Making just a device go away should just be a matter of taking the device out of your plug-in object’s device list and sending a notification that kAudioPlugInPropertyDeviceList has changed. As long as the device isn’t in the device list that you return to the host when it asks for it, the host will make all the devices no longer in the list go away.
