Yes, they're kind of vague. A demo video on another page shows an EWI player soloing with synthesized harmony.  The description mentions the Logic Environment but doesn't say exactly what they're doing.

I'm not sure I followed what you wrote about getting a midi port, so let me try to paraphrase it.  Is it the case  that Logic will let me map a midi port, e.g. my midi piano,  to a plug-in but will only accept digital audio output from it?

I wonder is there's a way to write my app as some sort of pseudo-driver that presents itself to Logic as a midi input device? That would satisfy item 1 from my original post.  I could live without item 2.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Cheers,
Mike

you can still get a MIDI port (or more than 1, i think) for the plugin and write stuff there. you can't inject it back into the host. there's no clear indication of which of those that plugin is doing, so i would guess it delivers (modified) MIDI to its own port.

Thanks, Paul.  Better to learn the bad news early, I suppose.   I wonder how these guys

are doing it.  They claim to work with Logic.  I'd just buy the app (not that expensive) except that I really want to program my own algorithms.

Cheers,
Mike

This brings up my first terminology question: is what I want to develop an AudioUnit or some other kind of plug-in, since it wouldn't produce any audio but simply transforms a MIDI input stream into a different MIDI output stream?

last time this was discussed, it was revealed that Logic doesn't support the AudioUnit callback that allows plugins to send MIDI to the host.
