Apple's Midi multimedia controller selection

  • Subject: Apple's Midi multimedia controller selection

I am interested in developing an Audio and Video multimedia application that includes a midi controller.  I looked on the internet and saw an IK Multimedia iRig Keys 37-key USB/MIDI Controller that looked like it would fit my purpose but I would like to know if Apple has any other controllers to choose from that might be better in some way or current with the state of the art.
Also, I've recently read that there was a conference on HD-MIDI where there was a demonstration of progress in MIDI resolution, compatibility and other things on the following the midi website: http://www.midi.org/aboutus/news/hd.php
Does Apple have any involvement with the completion of this new HD MIDI protocol specification and if so what kind of information, if any, could I get on how the development process is going and what these engineers are working with?
Thanks,
Patrick
