QTCaptureSession latency

  • Subject: QTCaptureSession latency

Howdy All,

I'm the developer of Phone Amego which provides Mac-to-Phone integration including the ability to act as Bluetooth Speakerphone.

In iOS6 Apple has enabled "echo cancellation" by default when using Bluetooth HFP devices.
See page 10, https://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/BluetoothDesignGuidelines.pdf

The play-through latency on the Mac appears to be outside the range recognized by the iPhone's EC software, so I'm still hearing echo. Currently I'm using a QTCaptureSession to provide the play through function because Apple's CAPlayThrough sample code is unreliable.

So my questions are:

(1) Is there any way to reduce the latency of a QTCaptureSession?

(2) Is there a more reliable CAPlayThrough sample I might use?

(3) Is there something else I'm overlooking that would prevent the iPhone's EC software from working effectively in this scenario?

Thanks for any pointers or insight.
