Would someone mind pointing me to a resource I could use to figure out how I could calculate two identical decibel values that when added equal another?

For example I am looking to reach -20db with two source values.  If I add -23db and -23db, they add to -19.98949, which while mathematically it is not exactly ( -20.0) it is close enough for listening purposes.  I was able to derive that through trial and error.  I have other sources that I need to calculate on the fly and I’m thinking that must be a better way than interpolate to arrive at the answer, since decibel addition is not linear.  Right now, my only solution is to interpolate until I arrive at the solution.

Example: expected value when added together (-20db), calculated left (-23db) + right (-23db)

Thank you,

W.
