What formats does the AUFilePlayer support on iOS?
Can it play back compressed audio?
Yes AUAudioFilePlayer will handle decompression for you.
Look at AudioUnitProperties.h file where this AU is discussed, for example the paragraph about Elements and Formats. Also, if you need a quick overview on how to use this AU, there is Q&A 1786.
