recording and playback independently with RemoteIO

  • Subject: recording and playback independently with RemoteIO

I'm developing an app for iOS where I need to play back and record audio only occasionally, and most of the time I'll either be doing playback or recording but not both at the same time.

I can see with a single instance of RemoteIO I can set sample formats for input and output, and separate input and render callbacks, but it appears that starting the unit with AudioOutputUnitStart will start both recording and playback if both are enabled?

Can I control them independently, so I could start recording while playback is already running? Or can I get an instance of RemoteIO each for recording and playback? Or should I just live with both running at once, ignoring input samples during playback and outputting silence while recording?

Thanks,
Hamish
