Automation accuracy?

When automating parameters, is there a way to make sure that the bits of a given parameter are retained EXACTLY?  We're thinking of automating some information that would require that we capture an EXACT bit pattern in the parameter's value, and be sure that it retains that value in ALL cases.  Is this guaranteed? Is it *possible*?
