I think the only mention of this is in the AU Programming Guide about subclassing from AUBase and not AUEffectBase when building an effect that does not have n-to-n channel mapping, so a little more detail might help. Can you file a request <bugreport.apple.com> against docs/sample code, it will get routed appropriately.
