Following-up on this question from a couple years ago:

Does OS X / Core Audio now allow an application to passthrough HD audio formats via HDMI?

We have a media player application on OS X that currently decodes these formats and outputs PCM over HDMI, but we would like to pass the bitstream through to compatible AVRs connected via HDMI.

Formats:
- Dolby TrueHD
- DTS-HD Master Audio
- Dolby Digital Plus
- DTS-HD High Resolution Audio

Is there still a software limitation that prevents this on OS X Mavericks/Yosemite?

This is a software rather than hardware limitation, right?
Do you know if future updates of Lion or Mountain Lion will support those audio formats?
