Do input and output channels need to match for HAL Output Audio Unit?

  • Subject: Do input and output channels need to match for HAL Output Audio Unit?

Quick question: when using the same HAL audio unit (kAudioUnitSubType_HALOutput) for both input and output, do the number of input and output channels need to match?

I haven't been able to find any documentation on this, but at least it seems necessary for iOS's Remote IO unit, so I am guessing it is the same for HAL, but I wanted to ask here to make sure (and please do point me towards docs if I missed them).

Thanks,
Rich
