Hi Brain,
meanwhile I performed my testing scenarios and all is fine.
Please understand that I cannot talk about license protection tech here in public.
But here’s some maybe useful piece of info I wasn’t aware of:
While Logic is performing AU validation by spawning an auvaltool subprocess it is at the same time instantiating the plugin also in the main process without doing much with it. Since these happens in two different processes in parallel, any external entities (servers, databases, devices whatever) access by these processes must cope with this situation and its specific timing. Having the same plugin instantiated for the first time from two different processes at almost the same time wasn’t something they expected.
Again, for debugging purpose it’s sometimes useful to know which access comes from where. But I was able to get my work done without.
Best Regards Rolf

Dear Rolf,
Perhaps you can explain which 3rd party license protection technology you are using, exactly what problems you're having, and what your end goals are.
There might be a way to solve your issue that has nothing to do with detecting validation mode.

Dear Brian, I was simply looking for a specific piece of information while testing scenarios involving some 3rd party license protection technology.

is it possible for an AU to detect that it is run for validation like with auval or from Logic/MainStage etc.?
