I've been searching the darwin web repository without much success, can someone point me towards that source code?

Darwin doesn't include ditto, so the ditto source code is not part of the Darwin open source distribution. You could try googling for hfspax or rsyncx if you're looking for source to a file copying utility that preserves forks and metadata on HFS+ filesystems. (I haven't used them, so I can't recommend one over the other)

matt.
