Hi Thierry.

Thanks for responding to my post. However, as I pointed out in my original message, it turns out that the problem is NOT specifically related to the PowerChute software. I wrote:

However, recently I added an EPSON RX500 Multifunction device (printer, scanner, card reader) to the system. With this device attached, I experience the sleep problem 100% of the time, whenever the system attempts to enter deep sleep. This confirms that the problem is related to USB, but it is not confined to the APC UPS as I had previously thought. The repeatability of the failure with the EPSON attached is more annoying, but at least it is predictable and that's the first step in hunting down this sort of problem.

So, while I'm interested in your UPS control software for other reasons, I'm not optimistic that it will help with this specific problem (of freezing when entering deep sleep).

Thanks anyway.

Hi Michael,

I am unable to get an answer at your question, but maybe you should take a look at my UPS software called TimeLeft. It's free...

Hi folks.

I'm interesting in troubleshooting the following problem, so I'm hoping to get some advice as to which module I should look into (IOKit or the Power Management System).

For the past few months, I have periodically encountered an issue when the computer is entering deep sleep. The symptoms are:
1) The display goes dark
2) The power light DOES NOT pulsate as it would if the computer was sleeping
3) The fans continue to run
4) The computer is unresponsive to remote login (ssh) and it will not wake up when a keyboard or mouse event is generated

I suspected that it might be a problem with the PowerChute driver for my APC UPS, so I've been running for a few weeks with the APC's USB cable disconnected. During that time, I have not encountered the issue, so I figured it was the APC software.

So the question remains: is this likely related to the system's USB support, or is it related to the power management system?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.
