Also, the man pages are well written.
Check out the following man pages:
launchd, launchctl, launchd.plist, rc, SystemStarter. Specifically
look at launchd.plist to see what sort of tasks are candidates for
launchd.
If I were to take a wild guess, I would check to see if your
StartupItem's StartupParameter.plist is Requiring something that is no
longer there. You should also see SystemStarter complain about
something in /var/log/system.log as well during the boot, if there were
missing dependancies.
