A while ago there were some posts to the list and also
the Darwin Documentation list about planned books on
MacOS X/ Darwin internals. David Gatwood said that he
was writing a kernel programming book with the working
title "Kernel Panic" (and he said that would not be
the final title). Also, Gautam Godse said that he was
writing a book with the tentative title "Mac OS X/
Darwin: Internals". Have those books or any similar
books come out?
Also, the online developer documentation on kernel
programming suggests reading the book "The Design and
Implementation of the 4.4 BSD Operating System" by
McKusick et al for background for the BSD part of the
kernel. However, it says that the BSD stuff is based
on the FreeBSD operating system. More recently, the
book "The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD
Operating System" by McKusick and Neville-Neil. So
should I really be reading the FreeBSD book? Does
anybody know if there is much new stuff in the FreeBSD
book anyway? (I already own a copy of the older 4.4
BSD book.)
