  Rather than mess with hwmond, I would suggest you look at the daemon
  used to communicate with Server Monitor.  You can just emulate the
  client side and do whatever you want.  I'm working on a set of perl
  scripts to extract the hwmond info and log it to a database.  If/when
  that's done, I'll post it to the list.

  Have a look at /etc/servermgrd and /usr/share/servermgrd/, in
  specific, /usr/share/servermgrd/cgi-bin/servermgr_xserve.

  Of course, none of this is Darwin stuff, it is all Mac OS X Server
  stuff, but I assume that's what you'd be running on a Xserve.
