It went away.

Hide? It's always visible from Darwin ;-)

In Tiger, though, the installer sets the invisible HFS+ attribute on
the files in / which should be invisible. If you have OS X and the
DevTools, you can use /Developer/Tools/SetFile, but unfortunately that
resolves symlinks and so it won't always work.
