For the record, I (and many others at Apple) agree that it _could_ be "so much better." Unfortunately, the solutions aren't always as simple as they might appear from the outside.
Still, I want you all to know that we appreciate your frank (and generally respectful) discussions of a difficult topic. I can't promise anything specific at this time, but I do want you to know that we are listening, and (as evinced by WebKit) we continue searching for ways to improve Apple's interactions with the open source community.
Thank you all for caring enough to share your frustrations. It does make a difference.
