There's all sorts of reasons to not do that. Don't do it.
Three options I would do in your situation:
- pick out the needed wchar routines from the newer libc and
incorporate them into my program if it doesn't violate the source
license.
- find a generic wchar add-on library somewhere. I'd be surprised if
one didn't exist, but I don't know.
- redesign my program to work in a degraded mode on systems which don't
give me wchar.

Hi, I have an application that needs to run on 10.2, and has a library
included which uses wchar, which is not in the 10.2 system dylib (it
was added in 10.3). It appears that the simplest way around this would
be to grab the latest darwin libc and build a static library and link
against that with my application (please correct me if there is a
simpler/better way).
So I grabbed Libc-320.1.3 which appears to be the latest version, and
tried a simple make (on 10.3). This failed - the last few lines are
included below. Are there some dependencies that mean that I need to
build/install something else first?
I'm after either:
- tips on how to get it to compile, or
- a pre-build ppc libc.a that I can link against.
