The pax tool comes from FreeBSD (well, some BSD anyway - it's a bit
old) and is already open source. I just went and looked at the man
page and didn't have any trouble understanding it, either. :-)
I found it took a bit of getting used to just because PINT: pax is not
tar ;-). I wonder why the packaging mechanism was switched from
[GNU]tar to pax...presumably to stop some (otherwise) closed-source
section of OS X from depending on GPL code...?
