Seconded, whole heartedly. This is one of my biggest pet
peeves about the darwin toolchain.
Also, it would be nice if ar could be made to update the table of
contents like it does on other platforms.
It is an amazing pain to port software to darwin which uses static
libraries. Since darwin is the only system in common use that I
know of which makes this complaint, nobody bothers with ranlib when
developing on linux, and then things expload on darwin.
