Why does mount_hfs ignore the sync option?

mount_hfs(8) silently ignores the sync option. Why?

The kernel HFS code seems to support the IO_SYNC flag. When I
modified mount_hfs to mount a file system with the MNT_SYNCHRONOUS
flag, I didn't see any problems.
