This seems like a bit of fantasy to me, I think it would have been far
simpler to put out the entire cctools project rather than looking for the
GNU as sources and putting them in a gas-590.23.2 tarball. Apple has never
bothered to "package the sources for third-party consumption" as can be seen
from complaints on this list over the years, a number of projects can not be
built due to missing files etc.
Regardless, I sincerely hope that the source code will eventually appear. I
strongly believe that having the sources in the open is of benefit to Apple.
