Hello List!
I am new to this list and i am also having the first contact with
darwin (but i am working with linux for several years also as
programmer and hope there are some things similar!) so please be
patient if i am asking something stupid!
We have a very large file server running samba 3.0.23c and are heavily
using dfs (distributed file system) to have some control over the real
big amount of data! this works great for windows and linux (*nix)
clients but there seems to be a serious problem with our (about 250)
mac os clients, as the mount_smbfs command of Mac OS X does not
support dfs! i allways get a "error -43" and "object not found"
although it really is there (tested with a patched version of
smbclient and several other *nix and windows clients).
i downloaded the smb source from
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.4.8.x86/ and saw the
last entry in the file HISTORY is form 2001 !! is this really that
outdated??
Did someone observe the same problems and/or knows a solution?
Is there any chance of getting mount_smbfs patched easily to support dfs?
Does someone now if dfs will be supported with leopard? (well, this
does not fix our current (and really urgent!) problem with tiger, but
maybe there is a chance of backporting..) ?
Thanks in advance for any hints!
With best regards
markus
