Infra-red remote control, responding to?

Hi,

I was wondering which API I need to use to make use of the I-R remote
control that comes with the compact Macs (iMacs, MacBooks, etc).
Given that KeyNote can quite happily make use of it, I would
imagine there is now a public API for this?

I am having trouble finding the right documentation over on the
Apple developer site.
