I'm trying to figure out what the deal is with atos and dSYM files. I assumed that atos would be part of the Darwin project, along with gdb, but I can't find it anywhere at opensource.apple.com. (I vaguely remember that there was supposed to be tool to help you search the Darwin source, but I can't find that either).

Anyway, can someone be so kind as to either confirm that atos is not an open source tool or point me in the right direction?

atos is not an open source project. Nearly all of the logic in atos is in a framework, vmutils, that is not open source.

The team that owns atos (in Developer Tools, by the way) is well aware that it needs to support dSYM files, so there's no need to file a bug about it. I don't know what the timeline is for that, but there are lots of folks who'd like to see it soon.
