Very helpful. It looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. I know
none of these solutions is perfect, but the purpose here is more to
discourage reverse engineering than to make it impossible.

Not quite what you were asking about, but the Cloakware Transcoder
product will probably get you the results you're looking for.
