examples of OSX volume control?

Hello, all ...

Can someone point me to some basic examples of how to control the volume of the left / right speakers under OSX, something similar to the Win32 mixer API (but if it's even simpler, great -- I only need to control volume, nothing else)? Also, though C++ is preferred (so I guess that means Carbon), an ObjC (Cocoa) example would also work.
