It should be. The server machine is 192.168.2.101 and the portable
is 192.168.2.3. They are both connected directly to the same
ADSL gateway/router.

I don't know whether I my firewall is blocking IPv6, but the machine can't ping itself when using the non- [::1] address. The routing table is as follows:
