Not sure why anyone would know this, and not sure why I knew it either, but the kernel source is in the package called xnu.

This can sometimes help (although not everyone would know this either :-}):


$ uname -v
Darwin Kernel Version 9.5.0: Wed Sep 3 11:29:43 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.7.58~1/RELEASE_I386


I think that's typical on BSD-derived unixy systems.
