May I ask you why do you think that dylib is the bottleneck ?
My impression is that the main function is reached fast enough, but
this is the UI initialization that is slow.
Even on a fast machine, it's possible to see a short period of time
during startup where the Application menu is set to Firefox, but the
remaining items are not visible.

Applications.paths does stick around after a reboot.
Is it safe for an application to add itself there?
Thanks, Joel

How do entries get into the Applications.paths file below?
Can it be edited manually or is there a tool to add and remove
entries?
