I would be interested in seeing these features from OpenSolaris
ported and integrated into the Darwin kernel.
1) OpenSolaris Zones - http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/Zones
More advanced then Jails: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jail_(computer_security)#Implementations
2) Bootable ZFS with integrated Clustering in ZFS
3) Sun Grid Engine into the kernel (http://gridengine.sunsource.net/)
L4 over Mach?
L4/Darwin

L4.sec

Thoughts?
This looks like a "I spent sunday afternoon surfing, and found these
cool projects. Apple should implement them in it's OS."
I don't think Apple is really going for the hardcore datacenter
system's that 'Zones' is aimed at. And businesses are still wary of
putting Apple hardware in their datacenters. For an example, see
complaints about the disappearance with no notice of Apples XRaid
hardware. Yes, you can still buy parts for them, but it was
literally, one day it was present on the Apple Store web site, the
next day, gone, with just a "Apple recommends some third-party RAID
system now".
I believe Apple is working on 2, except perhaps the clustering part.
Why put Sun Grid Engine into the kernel? It looks like something an
individual could possibly port (but I haven't looked at the actual
code), and it doesn't appear to need to be embedded into the kernel in
any significant way.
I would bet it is extremely unlikely Apple would migrate to L4, but
they might consider using some of the concepts from the project to
make their kernel better.
As I am Steve Jobs silent partner at Apple, this is Apple's official
word on the subject.
