I do remember i was study this question in the Tiger times, and was
adviced against this by apple engineers.
The only reason to install in /S/L/E is if the KEXT is needed to
boot the OS from disk.
Not only, any device drivers which need to be loaded in responce to
device plugged in, AFAIC.
yeah, we have the same experience.
Better /S/L/E than /L/E even though /L/E would be preferred, but in
practice for some reason it didn't pan out in testing.
Haven't done much regression testing against SL so maybe it changed.
