I haven't tracked this for a while now, but I imagine that, to serve
you better, we have disabled some of the original "simple services"
that were provided by most TCP/IP implementations. Anything like the
ECHO, DISCARD, and TIME services can be used for DOS attacks. They
are still defined, but I suspect few commercial systems ship with
these enabled.
You are, of course, allowed to implement servers for the missing
services :-}
