Nothing will save you from that question. What are you really trying to do?
I am trying to troubleshoot an Apache extension which doesn't seem to
work in 64 bit. I have since found that I can start it manually by
prefixing /usr/sbin/httpd with 'arch -i386', but...
I know of issues that can prevent booting if you force 32-bit binaries to be used on certain configs due to assumptions they make about their environment.
...if as you seem to imply, there is a way to force it across the board,
I'd still like to try. (This Mac swaps & beachballs a LOT less if I set
just *Safari* to run 32-bit, or return to 10.5.8 on another partition.)
